Our Common Bonds
November 1, 2009
Joanna Macy

In the midst of our daily living, we often lose sight of the fact that everyone we know and don’t know on this planet experiences very much the same worries and concerns for themselves, their loved ones, and humanity's future in general that we do.

Whether it's the loss of income or health, the untimely death of a loved one, or humankind's ability to deal with global warming, we all share a deep common fear of the unknown.

Our service will be a deep, non-verbal and experiential exercise of 'connection', in which we identify and share our common fears and hopes with each other. Renowned Buddhist author, poet, and activist Joanna Macy has developed this wonderful exercise in which we look with each other at our own fears – for both ourselves and our planet – and then, together, find the spirit and strength we all posses within for building trust and healing for our common future.

This exercise is very beautiful, inspirational deepening of our appreciation of each other, leading to an uplifting hope for our individual and collective futures.

Let Us Rejoice
November 15, 2009
Rick Childs

This is the time of year when we traditionally begin our 'winding-down.' But taking stock, first, of this past year’s activities inevitably brings us greater understanding and appreciation of our lives and accomplishments ... and fuels a more life-affirming winter.

Our service will celebrate the season time, "Harvest and Thanksgiving." Let us come together and celebrate the productive, positive undertakings we've experienced this past year and, more broadly, for all that we are and all that we have in our lives.

After looking at the importance of gratitude – the form of prayer most likely to bring us internal peace and greater benefits in the future – we'll open the service to a congregational sharing and celebration of the many blessings in our lives: those that occurred to us this past year ... and those that we enjoy, often unnoticed, that make our lives so rich.

Come - let us rejoice together!
